This week, we’re discussing giving away your novel for free.
Now, you’re likely thinking, “why would I give something I’ve poured my heart and soul (and possibly a good bit of money into) away for free?” The idea might seem preposterous, and certainly might raise the eyebrow of those whose names are also on your checking account, who have to date been assured that you’d be reaping the harvest of the financial and time seeds sown thus far with the release of your book.
However, we aren’t suggesting you give your story away, “willy-nilly.” As usual, there is a method to (and a great deal of research behind) this particular bit of madness.
Consider: have you ever watched an episode of a show that was the “season finale,” and found yourself desperate to get your hands on the next installment of that show? Have you ever had that experience with a novel—you’re finished with the book but not quite ready to say “goodbye” to these characters that you know and love?
If so, you may better understand the benefits behind giving away the first book of your novel series for free. If not, you’ll want to be sure to tune in this week, because that’s what today’s episode is all about, Indies. We’ll be exploring the reasons to give away your first novel in a series, and we’ll spend a good bit of time talking about the actual mechanics of doing such a thing. It’s an episode you won’t want to miss!
See you there,
Jamie
